We do and we’ve been waiting for this moment for quite a while now. Christmas 2018 will be the first year that we are back in the cold for the festive season. Dave and I can’t wait to see the snow fall and sipping on hot mulled wine at the christmas markets. The cold sparks the need to get closer to someone for warmth which makes winter the perfect season to fall in love and cuddle up. There are certain places that are the perfect romantic winter destinations, that offer perfect wintery bliss. Lübeck Germany

Do you love Christmas markets, Glühwein and walking around historic cities as much as we do? Then Lübeck will not disappoint you. It is known for its sensational Christmas markets, which are held since 1648. There’s nothing like walking hand-in-hand through the Christmas markets and smell the aroma of roasted chestnuts, mulled wine (Glühwein), herbal sweets and delicious sausages wafts through the clear winter air. Can you imagine a more romantic winter destination than this? It gets even better because in addition the stalls on Markt and Breite Straße offer Christmas tree decorations, toys and countless ideas for wonderful gifts. Nighttime is undoubtedly the most magical time as the markets become lit up with beautiful glowy lights, in Lübeck's wonderful UNESCO World Heritage Site. It provides a uniquely beautiful backdrop to the hustle and bustle of Christmas in the Hanseatic city. Ouray USA

Ouray is a charming village in the southwest of Colorado and is also called the Switzerland of America. During the Winter months the snow covers the Rocky Mountains and the snow can reach up to 2 metres. The snow creates a picture perfect winter wonderland and transforms Ouray into a fairy tale-like town which makes it a perfect romantic winter destination.

The fun and romance starts with thanksgiving when Ouray holds its annual Winter Fest. There are different major activities happening every weekend as well as many other events throughout the week. We all know that christmas is a very busy time for most people and this romantic destination could be your relaxing, friendly and spirit-filled getaway from the stress of the holiday season. The magic doesn’t end with Christmas however. You can find many winter activities around Ouray including soothing sulfur-free hot springs, tubing, snowmobiling, alpine skiing and snowboarding, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing.

This area is also known for its local brewery and craft distillery as well as many unique restaurants to please even the biggest foodies, perfect to get cozy in. Vienna Austria

Vienna, a magical weekend getaway destination especially before Christmas.  Couples and families arrive from all over the world to visit the more than 20 different Christmas markets. The city creates a perfect atmosphere for romantic moments with its beautiful and colorful lights. Cozy cafés, bars and restaurants enhance the idyllic Christmas feels. We think your night can't get any more romantic than taking a city tour in one of the famous horse-drawn carriages. This will be the ultimate final touch for your romantic winter getaway. For a bit of more action outside of the christmas markets go and take your loved one Ice skating. It is one of the must-do things to try at wintertime and perfect to get cozy together afterwards. During our visit of Vienna we stayed at Urban Flats Vienna Danube, which we highly recommend if you look for something clean, central and not too pricey.

Glacier Express Switzerland

If you decide for Switzerland for your romantic winter destination 2018, missing out on the special trip via Glacier Express to Oberalp Pass is a no-no. It is a direct train that takes you from Zermatt to St. Moritz. En route, you'll be glazing at the Alps while the train is squeezing its way through tight curves, 291 bridges, narrow valleys, and 91 tunnels. Another option is to take the Furka-Oberalp railway that operates throughout the whole year and provides limited access through a reservation process. Therefor make sure you reserve a spot in advance.

This train ride is among the top things to do in Switzerland.due to its incredible scenery. The special touch during winter is imparted by amounts of snow on the Oberalp Pass and snowy valleys.

Abisko (Aurora) Sweden

Looking for a way to literally get away from it all? Then the Northern Lights in the north of Sweden might be the answer. Cosy cabins topped with a thick layer of snow with a roaring fire inside conjure up a romantic winter destination for two. This little village HERE consists just of cabins and you’ll get the real feel of cabin life. Scandinavia and the Nordic countries are famous for their cosy, romantic lodgings and wild remote landscape. Light up a fire in your cabin, snuggle up to each other and wander out in the dark to see the northern lights. Whilst up there take your beau on a husky sledding tour. There’s no better way to bond! There are tours that offer that one of you will drive the sled and the other will be the passenger. Together you’ll lead your team of eager husky dogs through the wilderness.
